The OAI Was Established To ...

  • Encourage, establish, and maintain standards of competence, knowledge, and performance through the maintenance of educational programs and training.
  • Provide the vision care doctor, an efficient optical dispensing service through the educational programs of continuing education.
  • Foster a broader understanding and acceptance of professional opticianry/ophthalmic dispensing as indispensable to the health and welfare of the public.
  • Assist state and local governments, their agencies and other public groups, for the benefit of the public in the areas of consumer protection, and public health and safety.
  • Cooperate with health, scientific, and educational organizations in matters of interest to the field of opticianry and ophthalmic dispensing.
  • Promote the advancement of the science and knowledge of opticianry and better eye care to the public.
  • Advance the interests and general welfare of opticianry and ophthalmic dispensing as a profession.

Also being offered is an ABO Review course, this is an excellent way to measure your optical knowledge or prepare you for the ABO examination.

Reasons for Joining OAI

ONE DAY EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR

The OAI offers ABO accredited courses for your continuing education. This one day seminar is normally held in Springfield on the first Sunday in November. We normally provide three or four hours of continuing education.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The OAI offers ABO and NCLE accredited courses during this two day event held each spring.

NATIONALLY KNOWN SPEAKERS
The OAI acquires nationally recognized speakers to keep OAI Members updated on the latest technology.

NEWSLETTERS
The "Scanner" is published four times a year and keeps OAI Members informed of state and national news concerning opticianry.

UPDATES
The "Eyewire" is sent as needed to keep OAI Members informed between "Scanner" publications, as events don't always occur every three months.

NETWORKING
The Spring Conference and Fall Seminar both schedule social events where opticians get the opportunity to meet, share, and expand your knowledge with colleagues.

RECOGNITION
Professional affiliation with the OAI announces and reaffirms your commitment and dedication to your profession and recognition at state and national levels.

OAI AFFILIATION WITH OAA
The OAI affiliation with the national organization provides a voice for OAI Members in shaping the future of opticianry across the nation.

LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATION
The OAI monitors legislative activities, promoting and defending the Illinois Optician's area of practice.

BOARD MEETINGS
The OAI holds approximately six board meetings a year to conduct the business of the Association. Board meetings are open to all OAI Members.

ANNUAL MEETING
Held at the Spring Conference, the Annual Meeting gives every OAI Member a voice in the election of officers and directors, changes in bylaws and the conduct of business.

OFFICERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OAI Members may work on committees or join the board. Any OAI Regular Member may be elected to any Board position except Vice-President or President. These posts require at least one previous term on the board.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY
This provides each OAI Member with names, work addresses, and work phone numbers of active members.

REDUCED RATES
OAI Members get reduced rates to the Spring Conference and Fall Seminar.

WEB LISTING
OAI Members may have themselves and their employers listed on our web site, to assist patients seeking quality eyecare.
